  • EpiPen® (Adrenaline [Epinephrine])

    EpiPen® Auto-Injector (Adrenaline 300 mcg)
    EpiPen Jr® Auto-Injector (Adrenaline 150 mcg)

    EpiPen® Current Expiry Dating
    EpiPen® Adult: June 2018
    EpiPen® Junior: April 2018

On the spot treatment for anaphylaxis – when seconds count

EpiPen® contains adrenaline, the first line treatment for severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). EpiPen® is used to treat patients who have had a severe allergic reaction caused by, for example, hypersensitivity to food, medicines, stinging insects, latex or other allergens possibly unidentified.

Your doctor or pharmacist will assess which EpiPen® is right for you – this is usually based on weight. EpiPen® and EpiPen Jr® Auto-Injectors are Pharmacist only medicines available over the counter from your pharmacist or from your doctor. A prescription is not required.

It is important to practice with an EpiPen® Training Device

EpiPen® Training Devices are available from your pharmacy. The Training Device DOES NOT contain adrenaline or a needle and allows you to practice the two simple administration steps. It can also be used to help educate family members and friends to be prepared.

Sign up now to become a member of EpiClub® and receive a welcome kit with FREE Training Device.

    EpiPen® shelf life

EpiPen® is imported from the United States. The internal vial with the active ingredient (adrenaline) is produced in one manufacturing plant and then transferred and assembled into the pen device in another location and facility within the United States. It is then shipped to Australia. Once received into Australia, the NZ stock requirement is re-consigned and shipped over to New Zealand. The time span between initial manufacturing/assembling and then receipt into NZ is an accumulation of transit times as well as the processes and protocols required to be followed at each point of the distribution chain.

    EpiPen® cost

EpiPen® is not funded by PHARMAC therefore there is no patient subsidy available and users must pay the full price of the product.

The apparent simplicity of the EpiPen® Auto-Injector is deceptive as this easy-to-use device uses breakthrough technology. The benefit of the EpiPen® Auto-Injection technology allows people all around the world the freedom to carry their adrenaline with them wherever they go. It also means they can feel reassured that they, their family and other caregivers can quickly and reliably administer the vital adrenaline should an anaphylactic episode take place.

Whilst adrenaline ampoules are funded in NZ at a considerably cheaper price, please be aware this requires the skill of drawing up a syringe of adrenaline and then delivering the injection. For a non-trained person faced with a stressful situation of trying to self-administer or assist another, this incorporates additional risk. With EpiPen® Auto-Injector, adrenaline can be administered to the correct tissue compartment with just two simple steps.

  • Micreme (Miconazole nitrate)

Miconazole nitrate vaginal cream 2% w/w

Micreme vaginal cream is an antifungal medicine used for the treatment of candidal fungal infections (thrush) of the vagina.

Diabetes, obesity, illness and fatigue can increase susceptibility to the condition. Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy, at certain times of the menstrual cycle, or due to the oral contraceptive pill, can also increase susceptibility. The balance of the vaginal environment can be altered by the prolonged use of certain medications such as antibiotics and steroids; by soaking in baths using oils, salts or harsh soaps; or by wearing clothing which is too tight or synthetic clothing.
